Kibale forest is one of the best destinations for chimpanzee trekking in Africa, though chimpanzee trekking may be the most popular attraction in Kibale national park the new chimpanzee habituation experience has also been introduced just like gorilla habituation in Bwindi impenetrable national park
Kibale Forest National Park is one of Uganda’s most spectacular tropical rainforest parks; best known as the primate capital of the world. Founded in 1993, the Kibale forest features over 13 primate species including over 1500 wild chimpanzees, When it comes to chimpanzee tracking Kibale Forest National Park features on the top list as one of the most exceptional and sought-after tourist destinations by primate lovers. Besides chimpanzees, there are also other Apes that help to boost primate walks in the park some of which include the localized Red colobus, endemic Uganda Mangabey, the rare L’Hoests monkey, olive baboons, pottos, bush baby, Red-tailed monkey, Black and white colobus monkey, blue monkey among others.
Kibale National Park is home to an incredible population of Chimpanzees, with over 325 different bird species the rear Green breasted pita, 12 species of other primates, 351 tree species, and different species of mammals including Giant forest hogs, Bush pigs, Elephants, Buffaloes, and many other Wildlife species are inhabitants of the famous tropical rainforest.
There is no better season for chimpanzee habituation experience and chimpanzee trekking, however, for convenience, it is best in the months of March, April, May, and November, when there is less tourist congestion and there is a lot of fruits in the forest though these months are also rainy seasons in Uganda and those looking for dry weather should travel between June to October and from December to February.
Chimpanzee trekking experience (1 hour with the chimps)
The regular chimpanzee trekking experience is an activity where guests spend 1 hour with the chimpanzees from the time they find them and this is regulated to 3-4 hours if you don’t find the chimpanzees then you have to return back to the park office, however, the chances of finding the chimpanzees have been at 70-80% lately in Kibale forest national park.
Chimpanzee habituation experience (4 hours with the chimps)
The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience is a classic safari experience that allows visitors to accompany researchers and rangers into the rainforest. The chimpanzee troop Visited during the Habituation experience are less accustomed to human presence than those visited on the normal chimpanzee trekking experience and following and viewing them is both exciting and challenging but it’s one of the rear safari experiences you will encounter in East Africa, the guest will spend 4 hours with the chimpanzees from the time they find them and this is truly a unique safari experience.
