Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bujumbura international airport

On arrival at Bujumbura international airport, you will be received by our representative and transferred to your booked hotel overnight, depending on your time of arrival you may visit the city to change money and do some shopping.

Day 2: Boat cruise on Rusizi River

After morning breakfast you will drive to Rusizi national park where you will do a boat cruise where you expect to encounter wildlife like hippopotamus, antelopes, and monkeys along with numerous species of beautiful birds and later you will also visit Lake Tanganyika for lunch on the beach and later return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 3: Drive to Karera falls and source of the Nile

After morning breakfast you will have a long adventurers day exploring Karera falls which are situated in the conserved area of Karera covering 142 hectares. There are four falls in the Karera River, swelled by a branch from the Mwaro River coming in from the west. The latter parallels with the second on Karera River and together form, downstream, the fourth which is the strongest of all the falls after you will also visit the Source of the Nile Burundi is a historical site in Burundi for the Nile which is a major north-flowing river in north-eastern Africa and is the longest river in Africa despite being long the river has several tributaries that feed either lake Victoria in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania or Lake Albert in Uganda or the Democratic Republic of Congo before the river discharges its water as the White Nile through Uganda.

Day 4: Drive to Nyungwe forest

After morning breakfast you bid farewell to Burundi and transfer to the border of Rwanda for immigration clearance and after you will be received by our guide in Rwanda and transferred to Nyungwe forest national park, on arrival you will check in to your hotel for relaxation and overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest and transfer to Lake Kivu

The day will start quite early by meeting the ranger guides in Gishakura park headquarters for a short briefing before driving to Cyamudongo trekking area, on arrival you meet up with the trackers and head into this tropical rain forest, depending on how long it takes to find the chimpanzees you will spend 1 hour viewing the chimpanzees and later you will return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight or optional activities can be arranged in the afternoon by your guide and you pay directly.

Day 6: Drive to Lake Mutanda in Uganda

After early an early morning you will depart Nyungwe forest en route to Ugandan border of Cyanika, this drive will take you through incredible landscape via Gishwati Mukura national park, Volcanoes national park before crossing over to Uganda and later transfer to Lake Mutanda for overnight.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi forest

There are only about 1004 mountain gorillas left on Earth and trekking into Bwindi forests is the only way to see these critically endangered Mountain gorillas, as they cannot survive in captivity. Trekking for gorillas in Africa’s emerald rainforests and observing the everyday interactions of these vulnerable primates is arguably one of life’s greatest wildlife encounters. After morning breakfast with packed lunch fully dressed in your trekking gear you will transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by the expert park rangers, after you will start your trek into the forest in search of these gentle giants, after locating them you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 8: Drive to Lake Mburo national park

After morning breakfast you will start your drive to Lake Mburo national park, which is one of the top places for walking safari in Uganda, upon arrival you will check in to your lodge for relaxation and later transfer to the park for a walking safari on foot with an armed ranger guide after you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Transfer to Entebbe for your onward journey

Depending on your flight, you will enjoy a morning breakfast at the lodge after you will depart for Entebbe via the Equator line, where you will stop for shopping, coffee, and pictures, after you will continue to Entebbe upon arrival you will be transferred to the airport for your flight.

Best time to trek gorillas in East Africa

Although it’s regarded as a year-round activity, the best time to visit Uganda for gorilla trekking is during the country’s two dry seasons: January and February and from June to September.
