Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nampula & transfer to Niassa nature reserve

On arrival into Nampula, you will be met by your tour leader and transferred directly to your charter aircraft for your flight to Mariri, deep inside the vast Niassa National Reserve. Niassa is incomprehensibly huge, and the flight today is an experience in and of itself. The towering inselbergs that characterize this part of Africa dot the landscape, which gives way to open plains and dense riverine woodland.

On arrival in Mariri, the group is transferred to their exclusive, private tented camp deep within the reserve. You will have exclusive access to this section of the reserve throughout our stay, giving a genuine sense of seclusion and an authentic wilderness feel. After a chance to settle in and perhaps catch up on rest after your flights, we will head out on an evening and night drive, where we will focus on finding Niassa’s most famous residents; lion, leopard, and the ever-entertaining African wild dog.

Day 2-7: Full day exploration of Niassa Nature Reserve

The next six full days are dedicated to exploring this section of Niassa as the group wishes to. Morning, afternoon, and night drives are all available, as are walking safaris, canoeing safaris, and much, much more. During our stay, we are likely to spot the main predators that traverse this area, including leopard and wild dog, but also a rich diversity of other game species, including buffalo, elephant, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, and many others.

The camp is very well-appointed, and the group has exclusive access not only to a tour leader from Wilderness explorers Africa but also an expert local guide who ensures the group enjoys the very best sightings possible during their stay.

Day 8: Domestic charter flight from Niassa to Nampula

This morning you will return to Nampula to connect with their onward flights.
