Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome
Upon Arrival at Bamako Airport; welcome by our staff and transferred to the lodge for overnight and safari briefing.

Day 2: Bamako – Djenne
Breakfast at the hotel; set out for Djenne by 4X4. Lunch at San, town of the Bobo people. Arrive in Djenne in the afternoon; hotel check-in; take photos of the world’s largest mud mosque in the afternoon light.

Day 3: Djenne & Mopti River Tour
Djenne tour: tomb of Tapama, a sacred well, Koranic school, cultural museum, the old town of Djenne Djeno, founded by fishermen in 250 B.C. Lunch in Mopti at Bar Bozo, relax at the hotel pool. Sunset river tour, visiting small Peulh villages and Bozo fishing villages. Dinner and a peaceful night!

Day 4: Dogon city
Breakfast in Mopti. Set out for Dogon Country by 4×4 passing through Bandiagara. Trek either northern villages beginning in Sangha or southern villages starting in Djiguibombo (your choice). Lunch at local villages; rest during the hottest part of the day and spend the night in a charming campment either in a room or on the terrace under the stars!

Day 5: Dogon Country
Breakfast, trek Dogon Country. Visit mud houses in the cliffs built by Tellem people 7th-8th c. that reach 200-300 meters in altitude and used today as Dogon tombs. After lunch, take a rest. In the afternoon, we will have Volunteers tree planting to prevent desertification of Dogon Country for those who wish (Mali Experience Tours will provide a tree for each volunteer).

Day 6: Dogon Country – Mopti
Breakfast & continue trekking Dogon Country; visit a guinna where the eldest member of the village resides; meet a hogon village chief; and visit a toguna, traditional Dogon meeting house where all decisions and laws of the community are passed. Lunch at one of the villages. Return to Mopti; hotel check-in and relax at the pool at your leisure

Day 7: Mopti – Segou
Breakfast & depart Mopti and visit Segou, capital of the former Bambara kingdom: visit the port, crafts market, have lunch, and then visit an artist’s cooperative where you can learn the art of Bogolan (traditional mud cloth dye using tree leaves and bark), and visit the old quarter with Sudanese architecture. Dinner and a peaceful night!

Day 8: Segou – Bamako
Breakfast & depart Segou. Arrive in Bamako, visit the museum, artisans market, and Marche Rose and later transfer to the lodge for overnight

The Safari package can be booked at least 2 months in advance due to the difficulty of money transfer to Mali.
