Tanzania’s Serengeti national park plays host to Africa’s largest wildlife migration, the wildebeest migration takes place mostly in Tanzania; the wildebeest spend most of the year traversing the open endless plains of Serengeti national park, from July to October the Northern Serengeti becomes fully packed with migrating wildlife, the river crossings from Serengeti to Masai Mara happen often and wildlife viewing is phenomenal.

Detailed safari itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro and transfer to Arusha for overnight
On arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport, you will be received by our representative and transferred to Arusha for relaxation and overnight.
Day 2: Drive to Tarangire national park
After morning breakfast you will depart for Tarangire national park, this park is famous for the large herds of elephants and the baobab trees, on arrival you will enjoy lunch and head out for a game drive in search of wildlife like waterbuck, giraffe, dik-dik, impala, eland, Grant’s gazelle, vervet monkey, banded mongoose, and olive baboon. Predators in Tarangire include lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, honey badger, and African wild dog.
3 Day: Drive to Ngorongoro national park
After morning breakfast you will start your drive to Ngorongoro Crater which is one of Africa’s most famous sites and is said to have the highest density of wildlife in Africa. Sometimes described as an ‘eighth wonder of the world’, on arrival you will check in to your lodge for relaxation and overnight.
Day 4: Full day game drives in Ngorongoro national park
After morning breakfast with packed lunch, you will descent to the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater which is home to the “African big 5” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino). Huge herds of wildebeests and zebras traverse the crater floor; you will enjoy game driving in the crater and later return to the lodge overnight.
Day 5: Drive to Serengeti to follow the wildebeest migration
After morning breakfast you will depart for Serengeti national park which is well known for its world’s largest wildlife migration and a high concentration of big cats like lions, cheetah, and hyenas. The wildlife migration referred to as “the Great Wildebeest migration” is an annual movement of a large group of animals of about 2million, the largest wildlife being the wildebeest some zebras and gazelle that move from Serengeti national park northwards to Masai Mara National Park and back to Serengeti on arrival you will check in to your lodge and enjoy evening game drive in the park.
Day 6: Following the Wildebeest Migration
After early morning breakfast and packed lunch you will make your way to Mara River as you look out for the areas where the wildebeest are concentrated, usually hot and dusty, you will position your car perfectly and wait for a crossing to happen, the crossing usually happens the heat of the day, and later you will continue game driving in the park.
Day 7: Following the Wildebeest Migration
After early morning breakfast, you will take a picnic lunch and head into the park, this drive will be slow as you will be looking out for the abundant wildlife that traverses the plains of Serengeti national park, some of the wildlife includes elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopard, Zebra and you will also be making you’re the Mara river to try and catch the wildebeest cross the Mara River, this is the highlight of your trip to the Serengeti, the wildebeest migration is an annual migration of Millions of wildlife from Serengeti to Masai mara after the lovely game drive you will return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.
Day 8: Drive back to Arusha for Departure
After morning breakfast you bid farewell to the lodge and start your drive to Arusha, upon arrival in Arusha you will have a short city tour and do some shopping and later your guide will transfer you to the Kilimanjaro airport for your flight home or you will be transferred to your lodge for overnight.

This safari can be booked 6 months to 1 year in advance to allow us to secure the best places to stay during the wildebeest Mara River crossing as some lodges are hours away from the Mara River.
Best time to witness wildebeest Migration in Serengeti
The best time to be in Serengeti for the River crossing is late July through August and October when river crossings are seen often and most of the grass in Serengeti has been mulched already and the wildebeest are desperate to get to Masai mara.
