Safari itinerary

Day 1: Kigali city tour and later drive to Akagera National Park

After morning breakfast you will drive to the Kigali genocide museum for a tour of the genocide, this is one of the toughest historical moments in the history of Rwanda during the 1994 genocide a lot of people lost their lives, and later you will visit the Belgian peace center after you will have lunch and start your drive to Akagera national park which is Rwanda’s premier big 5 wildlife destination, upon arrival at the lodge you will check-in for relaxation and overnight.

Day 2: Game drive and Boat cruise in Akagera NP

After early morning breakfast, you will do an extensive game drive in the park in search of wildlife like giraffes, buffalos, elephants, lions, leopards,s and many other species including beautiful birds and later you will drive to Lake Ihema for a boat cruise where you will expect to see hippos, crocodiles and beautiful birds and later you will return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 3: Drive to Lake Muhazi for relaxation

After morning breakfast you will check out with your language and do a long game drive en-route Lake Muhazi this will be a classic safari game drive that will give you more chances of looking for wildlife you may have missed and later you will drive to Lake Muhazi for a boat cruise and relaxation.

Day 4: Drive to Volcanoes National Park

After lazily breakfast you will start your drive to volcanoes national park via Kigali, this drive is pretty scenic as you head to the mighty Virunga volcanoes home to the endangered mountain gorillas that live in the extraordinary rain forest with incredible biodiversity, upon arrival at your lodge you will check in to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes NP

You will wake up with the sounds of the wild near volcanoes national park, you will head in for morning breakfast full dressed in your trekking gear and after breakfast, you will transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for your gorilla briefing, after the briefing, you will be a located a gorilla family and your guide with the park rangers will transfer you to the trailhead start your trek on foot and after locating the mountain gorillas you will spend 1 hour viewing them and later you will return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 6: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali

After morning breakfast you will transfer to the park headquarters again for a briefing about the golden monkey trekking, this is usually an easier trek and after you locate the golden monkeys you will return to the lodge for refreshment and lunch after you will drive to Kigali for your departure flight or overnight.

Best time for a safari in Rwanda

The best time for safari in Rwanda is from June to October during the dry season and from December to March, this is when the country receives little or no rainfall compared to other months of the year.
