Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Moshi to Tarangire national park

After a safari briefing in the morning you head to the Tarangire National Park. Giant baobab trees seen from a distance the park is considered as one of the best places to see and observe African elephants up close. The park is also home to buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests which are always closely followed by a range of predators such as lions. Leopards are seen now and then but cheetahs are rarely spotted. From the open roof of the safari vehicle you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals.

Day 2: Drive from Tarangire to Lake Manyara national park

After morning breakfast, you will start your drive to Lake Manyara National Park upon arrival you will check in to the lodge for small relaxation and later you will drive to the park for an evening game drive. The park is dominated by the lake Manyara, which attracts large colonies of water birds. Particularly impressive are the pink-colored flamingos, Over 400 different bird species live in the park. The park is also famous for its tree climbing lions, which are usually found in the central and open part of the park. During the safari you will also see elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos and many other animal species.

Day 3: Drive from Lake Manyara to Serengeti national park

After an early breakfast you head towards the Serengeti. On adventurous slopes it goes the Rift Valley up into the wide plains of the Serengeti. The Serengeti National Park is one of the largest natural migration eco-systems for wildlife. The park is also a home to many other wildlife species, such as giraffe, buffalo, hyena, elephant or crocodile. Particularly large is the population of predators like lions, cheetahs and leopards traverse the plains of the mighty Serengeti. Upon arrival at the park you will continue with the a game drive in search of the abundant wildlife in the park.

Day 4: Full day game drives in Serengeti national park

After an early morning breakfast you will head in to the park in search of wildlife like lion, Thomson gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetahs. Later in the day you will enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch in the park under the shade of the giant acacia trees. In the afternoon you will continue game driving around the Kopjes which are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink!, later you will return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 5: Drive from Serengeti national park to Ngorongoro conservation area

You will enjoy some more game viewing before you leave the Serengeti National Park in the early afternoon to continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As soon as you reach the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, you will see the giant caldera below – a breath-taking view. You will leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and drive to Karatu in the Ngorongoro highlands where you will spend the night.

Day 6: Game drives in the Ngorongoro crater floor

After early morning breakfast you will drive back to Ngorongoro Conservation Area before you descent down into the crater. The massive collapsed volcano is home to over 20,000 mammals ranging from the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – to spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. After an extensive game drive and a picnic for lunch, you will leave the caldera in the afternoon and return to the lodge for dinner & overnight.

Day 7: Drive from Ngorongoro crater to Arusha

After a leisurely breakfast, you will travel back to Arusha where you will arrive around midday. You will be transferred to your booked hotel or to the airport for your departure flight.

Best time for a safari in Tanzania

Tanzania is an all year round safari destination but the best time to travel is usually during the dry season from June to October and from December to February when the wildlife viewing is easier and chances of heavy rain are lower.
