Safari itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes NP

After your lazy breakfast in your hotel, you will be picked up by your guide and transfer to Kigali for a city tour, after the tour you will then be transferred to the volcanoes national park for relaxation and overnight, depending on the time you may have lunch in Musanze or Kigali and this is flexible.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes NP

With all the imaginations on what to expect your guide will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you to Kinigi for a briefing about the gorilla trekking experience, after the briefing you will be transferred to the trailhead to start your trek into the forest, after locating the mountain gorillas you will then spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking experience

After a memorable experience with the mountain gorillas, you will again head into the rainforest to trek the rear and endangered golden monkeys, after morning breakfast your guide will receive you and transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing, after the briefing you will drive to the trailhead and start your trek after locating the golden monkeys you will then spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Lake Kivu in Karongi/ Kibuye

After lazily morning breakfast you will visit the Diana Fossey museum in Musanze after you will start your drive through the Kivu belt to Lake Kivu in Karongi, upon arrival you will check-in and relax depending on the time you may do a boat cruise or relax.

Day 5: Drive to Nyungwe forest national park

After lazily morning breakfast you will enjoy walking along the lakeshore and after lunch, you will then start your drive to Nyungwe forest national park, upon arrival in Nyungwe you will check in to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking experience

This is usually an early start, after early morning breakfast you will be picked up from the lodge and transfer to Gisakura park station for a short briefing by the ranger guides and after you will drive to Cyamudongo to start your trek, after locating the chimpanzees you will spend 1 hour with them and later drive back to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 7: Drive back to Kigali

After morning breakfast you will bid farewell to the lodge and start your drive to Nyungwe through the beautiful forest canopy where you will visit the ethnographic Museum in Butale and after you will drive to Nyanza to visit the King’s palace and also experience the Rwandan culture and later continue to Kigali upon arrival you will then be transferred to the lodge or to the airport for your outbound flight.

Best time to travel

Volcanoes national park is open for tourism all year round but the best time to travel is from June to October when the weather is dry and favorable for trekking Mountain gorillas.
