Our 7 Day Fly-in Nyungwe chimpanzees and Rwanda gorilla safari will offer clients a chance to fly one way from Kigali to Kamembe airport which is just a 1-hour drive to Nyungwe forest national park, depending on your flight schedule you may do some activities in the park.

Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali international airport and transfer to your lodge

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be received by our representative and transfer to the lodge for relaxation and overnight, but depending on the time of arrival you will be given a full briefing about the safari.

Day 2: Domestic flight from Kigali to Kamembe in Nyungwe forest national park

After morning breakfast, depending on the time of the departure flight you will be transferred to the airport for your domestic flight from Kigali to Kamembe airport, upon arrival in Kamembe airport you will be received by our safari guide and transfer to Nyungwe forest national park for check-in and overnight

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe forest

After early morning breakfast, you will drive to Gisakura park headquarters to meet the ranger guides for a briefing about the Do’s and Don’ts about Chimpanzee trekking and later start driving to Cyamudongo where the trek start from, here you will meet the trackers and start your trek on foot to search for the chimpanzees in the forest, upon locating the chimpanzees you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 4: Morning tropical waterfall walk and afternoon transfer to Lake Kivu

After Lazily morning breakfast you will head to Nyungwe forest for a beautiful tropical waterfall walk in the forest, this is a perfect way to experience the beauty of Nyungwe forest, you may also encounter birds and wildlife on the trail before you reach the truly beautiful forest waterfalls after you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation later in the afternoon you will drive to Lake Kivu for relaxation and Overnight.

Day 5: Drive to Volcanoes national park

After Lazily morning breakfast you will start your scenic drive through the famous Kivu belt, this road meanders along Lake Kivu with some spectacular views, this drive will also take you through Gishwati Mukura national park and classic tea fields, upon arrival in Volcanoes national park you will check in to your lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking Experience in Volcanoes national park

After morning breakfast full dressed in your trekking gear, you will transfer to Park headquarters in Kinigi where you will have a full gorilla briefing by the park guides in your respective gorilla family group and after you will drive to the park boundary to start your trek on foot, depending on the location of the gorilla family you will spend 1 hour with the mountain gorillas in the rainforest and later return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight, gorilla trekking experience can take anything from 2 hours to 8 hours.

Day 7: Drive to Kigali for your departure flight

After morning breakfast you will drive to Kigali, upon arrival you will check in to your day room and after lunch, you will transfer to Kigali city for a tour of the Kigali genocide memorial and the Belgian peace center and later you will return to the lodge for refreshment and later you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.

Best time to visit Rwanda for a safari

Rwanda is an all-year safari destination but the best time to visit is usually during the dry season from June to October and short dry spell from January to February.
