Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be picked up by our Guide and transferred to your lodge in Kigali for overnight as you prepare for an expedition to DR Congo’s Virunga national park and the active Nyiragongo volcano.

Day 2: Goma border – Virunga National Park (KIbumba)
Drive to the DR Congo Goma border at 12 and ensure check-in with VirungaTourism office by 13.00. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite the immigration office. Guests will receive Gorillas and Nyiragongo permits at check-in which must be presented at the start of each trek. Once check-in is complete, you will be transported to KIbumba via Kilimanyoka, overnight at KIbumba Tented Camp (3 stars bases on a single room with a single bed, self-contained one with hot shower and internet included) Full Board.

Day 3: Virunga National Park (Gorillas trek) – KIbumba Tented Camp
After early morning breakfast, head down the hill to meet with Ranger guides and have a briefing before the Gorillas trek. Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on the location of Gorillas group being family group, trekkers will make their way back to Camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching, overnight at KIbumba Tented Camp Full Board.

Day 4: KIbumba – Nyiragongo volcano hike
After early morning breakfast, with your packed lunch, drive into Virunga National Park precisely at Kibati where there is the post rangers patrol, after the registration and briefing, enjoy Nyiragongo volcano hike starting at 1994m and ending at 3470m altitude at the summit, see the impressive lava lake in the largest crater, overnight up the summit in the Virunga National park shelter. Dinner included.
Note: The climb up to Volcano will take around 4 to 6hours.

Day 5: Nyiragongo volcano – Goma
After a very early morning visit to the lava lake again, take your breakfast, around 6 am, descend the volcanic mountain with a view of Karisimbi and Mikeno Volcanic Mountains, arrive at the starting point, write comments then drive back to Lake Kivu on the Rwandan side.

Day 6: Drive to Kigali for your flight
After lazily breakfast you will drive to the Rwandan capital Kigali where you take your flight from as it’s the easiest airport from the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
