The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the Eden’s in Africa to see the variety and high endangered wildlife like the Lowland gorillas, mountain gorillas, Bonobos, Okapi but the countries continue political instabilities has forced the country to be one of the lists visited countries in Africa due to its rich but less protected wildlife. There are two subspecies of the lowland gorillas found in the Democratic Republic of Congo the less threatened being the Eastern lowland and the Western lowland is critically endangered.
Kahuzi Biega national park is located in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo just 50 km away from Bukavu town which is one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s biggest business districts bordering Rwanda’s Rusizi which is also a big business Hub and beach holiday destination on the shores of Lake Kivu. Kahuzi Biega national park is listed as the world heritage sites as it’s known to be holding one of Africa’s few remaining Lowland gorillas in the base of Mount Kahuzi and Biega, being the only habitat for the eastern lowland gorillas which are only found in Democratic Republic of Congo in the entire world. The 75,000 ha eastern sector is entirely montane. The massif is part of the Mitumba Mountain range, the western mountains of the Great Rift Valley.

Detailed safari itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to your lodge for overnight
On arrival at Kigali international airport you will be received by our guide and transferred to your hotel for relaxation and overnight.
Day 2: Drive from Kigali to Cyangugu on the shores of Lake Kivu Rwanda
After morning breakfast you will start your drive to Cyangugu city of Rwanda, this town is situated on the shores of Lake Kivu bordering DR Congo’s Bukavu town on arrival you will check in to your lodge for relaxation and overnight.
Day 3: Cross over to DR Congo’s Bukavu town for preparation
After Lazily morning breakfast you will transfer to Bukavu border post for immigration clearance and you will be received by our guides in the DR Congo and transferred to your hotel for overnight.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Kahuzi-Biega national park
Today you will start the quite early as you drive to the park headquarters of Kahuzi-Biega national park, on arrival you will meet the park guides and rangers for a briefing about the Eastern lowland gorillas after you will head in to the rainforest with the rangers to start trekking the gentle giants on locating them you will spend 1 hour with them and after return to the park for a debrief and then drive back to Bukavu for overnight.
Day 5: Cross Back to Rwanda and Drive to Lake Kivu in Karongi
After lazily morning breakfast you will transfer to the border for immigration clearance and after you will start your drive to Lake Kivu in Karongi, on arrival you will check in to the lodge for relaxation, if time allows you will enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Kivu.
Day 6: Drive back to Kigali for your onward journey
After lazily morning breakfast you will start your drive to Kigali, on arrival you will enjoy a short city tour of Kigali and depending on your flight time you will then be transferred to the airport for your onward Journey.

Best time for trekking Eastern lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega DR Congo
Trekking eastern lowland gorillas in Congo can best be done between June to September and January to mid-February. However, visitors can always trek lowland gorillas at any time of the year.
