Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali for a city tour and transfer to Volcanoes National park

After morning breakfast you will be picked up from your lodge and transfer to Kigali city for a city tour of the Kigali genocide museum and the Belgian peace center and later have lunch and after you will start your scenic drive to volcanoes national park, this drive will take you through rolling hills and farmlands, upon arrival in Musanze town you may visit the Dian Fossey Museum and later continue to Kinigi for overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes NP

After morning breakfast, full dressed in your trekking gear, you will be transferred to Kinigi park headquarters, this is where you will meet all other travelers going gorilla trekking and the park rangers will take you through a briefing about the Do’s and Don’ts and later you will drive to the trailhead where you will start your trek in the foot, upon locating the mountain gorillas you will then spend 1 hour with them as you view them, take pictures and later you will return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu in Karongi

After an incredible day with Mountain gorillas, you will again transfer to Kinigi for a golden monkey trekking experience, this is fewer strainers as the golden monkeys leave in the bamboo zone, you will have a briefing with the park rangers and later drive to the starting point for the trek on foot, upon locating the golden monkeys you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for refreshment and later start your drive to Lake Kivu in Karongi for overnight.

Day 4: Boat cruise in the morning and transfer to Nyungwe Forest NP

After lazily morning you take a boat cruise on Lake Kivu, this incredible boat tour will take you to one of Africa’s greatest Lakes, you will expect to see birds, local fishermen, and historical sites after you will return to the lodge for lunch and later start your drive to Nyungwe forest national park for an overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking Experience in Cyamudongo

After early morning breakfast at 4:30 am you will transfer to the park headquarters to meet the rangers at Gisakura and later start your drive to Cyamudongo, upon arrival in Cyamudongo you will meet the trackers and start your trek into the forest, upon locating the Chimpanzees you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 6: Drive to Kigali via Ethnographic Museum and King’s palace

After morning breakfast you will bid farewell to the lodge and start your drive through the forest to Huye upon arrival in Butale you will visit the ethnographic museum and have lunch, After lunch, you will then drive to King’s palace in Nyanza for the cultural experience and later you will continue to Kigali for your onward flight or our guide will transfer you to the place of overnight.

The best time for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda is from June to October when there is less rainfall in the parks making hiking much easier.
