Serengeti national park is a fascinating place for wildlife viewing throughout the year. Depending on one’s interests in wildlife activities, different months come with different things to see and enjoy. For example, around July to August, wildebeests are approaching the Mara River, January to March is when wildebeests are calving and predators are many and easily spotted.
Our 5 Days Serengeti Wildebeest Migration safari will take you to Northern Tanzania where you will follow the wildebeest migration herds near the Mara River and if you’re on top of it you will witness the Mara River crossings.

Day 1: Drive from Arusha to Serengeti national park
After morning breakfast at your lodge, your guide will pick you up and you start your drive to Serengeti national park, the long drive is long but spectacular. This will be an unforgettable moment for anyone seeing it for the first time. As you progress well into the Serengeti, you will see why the name means, in the local language, “endless plains”. The park has 6,900 sq. miles (18,000 sq. km) and for most of it, the plains will stretch to the horizon defying your senses and perception of distances. It is the home of the Great Migration and to 2 million wildebeests, hundreds of thousands of zebras and all kinds of antelopes. As for Big Cats and large predators, it’s the place of choice to look out for lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, with many television scenes like the famous river crossings having been filmed in this park.
Day 2: Full day game drives in Serengeti national park to follow the wildebeest herds
After morning breakfast with packed lunch, you will start your slow game drive in the park as you search for wildlife like Lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas but not forgetting the highlight of the safari is to locate the wildebeest herds depending on the location you will follow the wildebeest and sit in a strategic position to wait for the River crossings and later in the day you will enjoy a picnic lunch and continue following the wildebeest herds and later you will return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.
Day 3:Full day game drives in Serengeti to follow the wildebeest migration herds
Yet another day in the Serengeti national park will start with an early morning breakfast and with a picnic lunch you will head out again with your guide to starting from where you left interesting attractions you will then continue to the Mara River where you will hang along with the wildebeest herds and wait for any River crossings and later you will return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.
Day 4: Full day game drives in Serengeti national park to follow the wildebeest herds
After morning breakfast you will head into the park for a half-day game drive in the park in search of wildlife and follow the wildebeest herds and later return to the lodge for hot lunch and later you will take an evening sundowner in the park with snacks and drinks and later return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.
Day 5: Drive back to Arusha for your departure flight
After morning breakfast you will bid farewell to the lodge and start your drive to Arusha, upon arrival you may do some shopping and later transfer to Kilimanjaro international airport for your departure flight.

The best time to witness the Wildebeest Mara River crossing is towards the end of July through August when the crossings happen more often and also during the month of October when the wildebeest are returning from Masai Mara to Southern Serengeti national park.
