Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and drive to Nyungwe forest national park

After morning breakfast you will depart Kigali for Nyungwe with your first stop coming in Nyanza where you will visit the King’s palace for a cultural experience before proceeding to Huye or Butale for a tour of the ethnographic Museum and Lunch after lunch you will drive to Nyungwe forest for a check-in and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Lake Kivu

After very early morning you will drive to Gisekura park headquarters where you will meet with the park rangers and drive to Cyamudongo where you will start your trek into the forest on foot with the trackers after locating the chimpanzees you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the Lodge for refreshment and Lunch, After lunch, you will then drive to Karongi which is a small beach town along Lake Kivu for relaxation and sunset boat cruise on the Lake with drinks and snacks.

Day 3: Drive to Volcanoes national park

After lazily breakfast you will start your drive to Volcanoes national park along the Kivu belt, the road takes you along Lake Kivu, Gishwati Mukura national park, and some of the incredible tea farms in the region making it an incredibly scenic drive, upon arrival in Volcanoes national park you will check in to the Lodge for overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes national park

As the sunset rises above the clouds and the birds start singing you will definitely know it’s time to experience Africa’s greatest wildlife encounters in your entire life as this is regarded as once in a lifetime experience, your guide will pick you up from the Lodge and transfer to Kinigi park office for a gorilla briefing by the park rangers, after the briefing you will then drive to the trailhead to start your gorilla trekking experience, after locating the gorillas you will spend 1 hour with the mountain gorillas and then return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 5: Golden monkey trekking or Kigali city tour

Today is an optional day, you may choose to relax and drive to Kigali for your flight or you may choose to go golden monkey trekking which you have to purchase your permit the previous day or after breakfast drive straight to Kigali for a city tour, this can be arranged by the guide or you let us know of your final plan upon booking the safari and we shall book the exact activity for you.
