Safari itinerary

Day 1: Morning Kigali city tour and transfer to Volcanoes national park in the Afternoon

After morning breakfast you will head to Kigali city for a city tour, on this short tour you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial and the Belgian peace center after you will have lunch at the famous Hotel Rwanda, after lunch, you will start your drive to Volcanoes national park via Musanze, upon arrival you will check in to your lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes national park

After morning breakfast you will transfer to park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking, after the briefing you will then drive to the trailhead to start your trek on foot, depending on the location of mountain gorillas the trek can take anything from 2 hours to full-day upon locating the mountain gorillas you will spend 1 hour with the gorillas and later return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 3: Hike to the summit of Mount Karisimbi volcano

Have early breakfast, and report to the park offices by 7 am. Carry snacks for the hike, and enough drinking water. Meet the ranger guides for briefing and then drive towards Mountains Karisimbi and Bisoke. At the starting point just outside you shall find the porters to hire for the hike and you will also find a pile of walking sticks to pick from. Begin the trek into Volcanoes National Park.

Day 4: Decent to the down and transfer to your hotel

After an extraordinary experience in the mountains, you will descent down to the endpoint and then your guide will pick you up and transfer you to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 5: Drive back to Kigali for your flight

After lazily morning you will start your drive to Kigali, upon arrival in Kigali you will either check in to your lodge overnight or transfer to the airport for your scheduled departure flight.

When to book safari itinerary

This tour package can be booked between 6 months to 1 year in advance; this is to allow us to secure your gorilla permits in advance as the gorilla permits are sold by the Rwanda government on a first come first serve basis.

Best time for hiking in Rwanda

The best time to visit Rwanda for hiking is during the dry season from June to October and from January to March when the hiking trails are drier making hiking easier and less slippery.
