5 Days Grumeti River Wildebeest Migration Safari

Though the Grumeti area is overshadowed by areas like Kogatende, Ndutu it is one of the best and less visited areas in Serengeti making it a special safari destination during May and June when massive herds of wildebeest congregate at the Grumeti and then cross over on their way to Northern Serengeti to prepare for what is the biggest obstacle on the Migration trail the Mara River crossing.

Our 5 Days Grumeti River Wildebeest Migration is a classic safari that will give you chance to see top wildlife in the Grumeti area and if you’re so lucky you will see Serengeti’s second biggest wildebeest River crossing at the Grumeti River which is situated almost entirely the western corridor of Serengeti National Park. It flows westward and mouths into the Speke Gulf of Lake Victoria.

Suggested safari itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Arusha to Grumeti reserve in Serengeti

After early morning breakfast, you will start your drive to some of Tanzania’s true wilderness areas in the western Serengeti where the first phase of the wildebeest Migration takes place along the Grumeti River which is an important source of water for the wildlife during the dry season though with the presence of the Crocodiles it does pose a threat to the Migration route as an obstacle though not tough as the Mara River there is a challenge to cross the River and this is one of the greatest wildlife shows on the Migration trail, upon arrival you will check in to your Lodge for accommodation.

Day 2: Full day game drive in the Grumeti area

Serengeti is one of the greatest wildlife reserves in the world and just being in the plains looking at the endless plains is one of the greatest highlights of a safari in Africa, after morning breakfast with picnic lunch you will enjoy a full day game drive in the wilderness area following the wildebeest herds and if you’re lucky you will witness the Wildebeest cross the Grumeti River.

Day 3: Full day Game drive in the Grumeti area

After an eventful and action-packed day in western Serengeti, you will start your day with a sunrise over the plains as you continue to follow the wildebeest herds as they congregate at the Grumeti River as they prepare to plunge into the river to cross over en route to the Mara river which is the greatest obstacle of the Migration.

Day 4: Full day game drives in the Grumeti area

This will be your last day in western Serengeti where you will search for wildlife you have not seen and as you continue to follow the wildebeest migration across the Grumeti area and you will then enjoy an evening sundowner in the park as you watch the sunset over the Grumeti plains in western Serengeti.

Day 5: Drive back to Arusha

After morning breakfast you will depart western Serengeti in Tanzania’s northern safari destination for Arusha upon arrival in Arusha depending on your schedule you will transfer to Kilimanjaro for your outbound flight.
