Safari itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from the lodge and transfer to Volcanoes NP

After morning breakfast you will transfer to Kigali for a short city tour and lunch, after lunch, you will drive to the volcanoes national park where you will have a chance of visiting the Diana Fossey Museum in Musanze you drive to the lodge for check-in and relaxation.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park

No day on safari is as good as preparing for Africa’s greatest wildlife encounter in Volcanoes national park, after morning breakfast your guide will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you to Kinigi park station for gorilla trekking briefing, after the briefing you will then be transferred to the trailhead to start your trek, after locating the mountain gorillas you will then be view the mountain gorillas for 1 hour after you will return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Lake Kivu

After an exciting encounter with the mountain gorillas, your guide will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you to Kinigi for yet another primate encounter with the golden monkeys, just like gorilla trekking you will have a briefing and later drive to the trailhead where you will start your trek into the rainforest, after locating the golden monkeys you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for refreshment and later drive to Lake Kivu for overnight.

Day 4: Day at leisure and Lake Kivu boat cruise

You will spend the morning at leisure and later in the evening, you will then take a sundowner boat cruise on Lake Kivu where you expect to see local fishermen and water birds as you enjoy cold drinks, and later you will return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 5: Drive back to Kigali

After morning breakfast you will bid farewell to the lodge and start your drive to Kigali, upon arrival in Kigali you may be transferred to the lodge or you will be transferred to the airport for your outbound flight.

When to book safari package

6 months to 1 year in advance for purposes of securing gorilla permits which are usually booked up in the summer and are sold by the government of Rwanda on a first come first serve basis.

Best time to travel

Volcanoes national park is an all-year-round safari destination but the best time to travel is from June to October and from December to January when the climate is more favorable.
