4 Days Volcanoes NP Gorillas and Diana Fossey Grave Hike

The history of gorilla trekking in Rwanda is tied around the American primatologist Diana Fossey who sacrificed her entire life in Rwanda’s volcanoes national park to protect the Mountain gorillas until she meets her death on 26 December 1985 when unknown poachers murdered her in the park and she was buried at her research center in Karisoke and now you can hike to see her grave as part of activities to do in the park.

Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to volcanoes national park

After morning breakfast you will be picked up by your guide from your Hotel in Kigali and transfer to Kigali genocide memorial for a visit after touring the genocide you will then start your drive north of the capital Kigali towards Volcanoes national park upon arrival at the Lodge you will check-in, have dinner and Overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes national park

This is one of the top highlights of your safari, after morning breakfast your guide will pick you up and transfer you to the park station in Kinigi where you will meet with the rangers who will take you through a briefing after the briefing you will drive to the trailhead to start your gorilla trek into the rainforest, Upon finding the Mountain gorillas you will spend 1 hour with them and return to the Lodge for relaxation.

Day 3: Diana Fossey grave hike

Yet another day in the volcanoes national park, after morning breakfast you will be received by your guide and transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing about the Diana Fossey grave hike, after the briefing you will again drive to the starting point for the hike may take about 3 hours to reach the grave and 3 hours to return back so you may need to be physically fit for this trek After the gorilla trekking experience.

Day 4: Drive back to Kigali

After lazily breakfast you will then start your drive to Musanze where you will visit the Diana Fossey Museum after the visit you will continue to Kigali, upon arrival in Kigali you may be transferred to your booked accommodation or to the airport for your outbound flight.

6-1 year in advance as gorilla permits are very limited and sold on a first come first serve basis.

Best time to travel

You can travel to Rwanda all year round however the best time is from May to October and from December to March when there is less rainfall or no rainfall in the country.
