Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park is one of the top safari attractions in this diverse rainforest, the park borders Burundi’s Kibira national park making it one of the few natural lowland forests left in East Africa, Nyungwe forest is home to over 10 primate species that live in the forest cover and the most spectacular being the chimpanzee trekking which takes place in Cyamudongo area.

Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Nyungwe Forest NP
After early morning breakfast from your lodge, our guide will pick you up and start your drive south of the main capital Kigali with your first stop at Nyanza kings palace where you will discover the rich culture of Rwanda and later continue to the Ethnographic museum in Huye or Butale and enjoy lunch after lunch you will then drive to Nyungwe forest national park for an overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & Canopy walk
With a lot of excitement, you will start the day early with a packed breakfast and drive to the Gisekura park office to meet the rangers, After meeting the rangers you will then drive to Cyamudongo where you will trek the chimpanzees on foot in the dense forest cover, after locating the chimpanzees you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the lodge for lunch after lunch you will drive to Uwinka for a canopy walk experience before returning to the Lodge for overnight.
Day 3: Drive back to Kigali
After a wonderful experience, you will bid farewell to the Lodge and start your drive back to Kigali via the Kivu Belt, this is one of the most beautiful roads to drive in Rwanda as the Road meanders along Lake Kivu giving excellent landscape views.

3-6 months in advance due to the limited number of chimpanzee permits.
Best time to travel
All year round but the best months are from June to October and from January to the end of February when there is less rainfall in the park making trekking easy.
