3 Days Ngorongoro Crater Safari
The jewel in the Ngorongoro crown is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world. About 20 km across, 600 meters deep, and 300 sq km in area, the Ngorongoro Crater is a breath-taking natural wonder.
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most famous sites and is said to have the highest density of wildlife in Africa. Sometimes described as an ‘eighth wonder of the world’, the Crater has achieved world-renowned status, attracting an ever-increasing number of visitors each year. You are unlikely to escape other vehicles here, but you are guaranteed great wildlife viewing in a genuinely mind-blowing environment. There is nowhere else in Africa quite like Ngorongoro!
The crater floor consists of a number of different habitats that include grassland, swamps, forests, and Lake Makat (Maasai for ‘salt’) – a central soda lake filled by the Munge River. All these various environments attract wildlife to drink, wallow, graze, hide, or climb. Although animals are free to move in and out of this contained environment, the rich volcanic soil, lush forests, and spring source lakes on the crater floor (combined with fairly steep crater sides) tend to incline both grazers and predators to remain throughout the year.
Safari highlights
- Scenic drive from Arusha to Ngorongoro crater
- Game drives in the Ngorongoro crater area
Day 1: Drive from Arusha to Ngorongoro conservation area
You will be met by our driver guide in your hotel or airport upon arrival who will brief you about your next 3 days in Ngorongoro Crater Safari and then start your drive to Ngorongoro crater where you will arrive early afternoon, check-in our lodge for refreshment and lunch. After lunch, you will head out for the afternoon game drive in search of the vast bio-diversity of the park such as wildebeest, eland, warthog, hippo, lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, Zebra, buffalo, and ever-elusive leopards which sometimes needs a well-focused eye to spot it.
Day 2: Full day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater
On this day, you will start with breakfast and packed lunch as we descend down to the crater for the most spectacular moments of the park; this is breathtaking in that the crater hosts a wide pride of lions that you might come across hunting and many more during your whole day game drive in the park. You will break off for somewhere under a tree in the wilderness. After our “bush” lunch, we will continue with the game drive till evening then drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Drive from Ngorongoro to Arusha
On our last day of Ngorongoro Crater Safari, we will have an early morning breakfast depending on flight time; we could do a short game drive then proceed to Arusha for your departure flight.
