Diana Fossey’s legacy will not be taken away as she dedicated her life to protecting the mountain gorillas North of the Rwandan capital Kigali, the Karisoke research center is one of the top gorilla research centers in Eastern and Central Africa, this led to the formation of Diana Fossey gorilla fund which is a Non-governmental organization protecting Rwanda mountain Gorillas.

Safari itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Kigali to Volcanoes national park

After morning breakfast at your lodge, you will be picked by our guide and transfer to the Kigali genocide museum for the tour after visiting the genocide you will also visit the Belgian peace center and later transfer to Volcanoes national park for relaxation and overnight.

Day 2: Hike to the Diana Fossey Grave and Karisoke research center

After an early morning breakfast full dressed in your hiking gear, your safari guide will transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the hike after the briefing you will drive to the starting for the hike, this hike will take anything from 3-4 hours with incredible stops to see primates and birds, after reaching the Karisoke research center the guide will take you through the works of Diana Fossey and later you will return to the endpoint and later drive to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Kigali

After an incredible day, you will again get dressed in Trekking gear and transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing, after the briefing you will be signed with the gorilla family and later you will drive to the trailhead as you get ready for one of Africa’s greatest wildlife encounter, which is coming face to face with the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat in Volcanoes national park after locating the gorilla families you will then spend 1 hour with the gorillas and later return to the lodge for refreshment and after you will be transferred back to Kigali for your departing flight or for overnight.

Best time to visit Rwanda

Rwanda is all year travel destination through the dry season from June to September is best for gorilla trekking and also from December to February is also a fantastic time of the year to visit Rwanda.
