3 Days Birding in Volcanoes National Park

Our 3 Days bird watching in Volcanoes national park is a short but well-designed safari package that will allow you to explore several places as you discover the list of birds of Rwanda, this trip is aimed at searching of the Albertine rift endemics as volcanoes national park is one of the top areas in Rwanda alongside Nyungwe you will see some incredible birdlife.

Safari itinerary

Day 1: Pick from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes national park

After morning breakfast you will check out of your lodge and transfer to Nyabarongo swamp for morning birding in one of the protected wetlands in Rwanda, this will give you a great opportunity to encounter water birds and few immigrants birds that move through the wetland and later you will drive to volcanoes national park with birding en-route and upon arrival, you will check-in for relaxation and overnight.

Day 2: Full day birding in Volcanoes national park

After early morning breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi to meet the rangers and later drive to the forest edge to start your birding, this will give you an opportunity to see some of the Albertine rift endemics in the park, you will spend the entire day in the forest birding with the expert guides and later you will return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 3: Birding in Lake Bulera and Ruhondo in the morning and transfer Kigali

After morning breakfast you will transfer to the twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo for a boat cruise, after the boat cruise you will then start your drive to Kigali for your outbound flight or overnight.

Best time to Travel

The best time for birding in Rwanda is during the dry season from June to October when most endemics are breeding.
