Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti ecosystem form the backdrop to one of the most breathtaking events in the entire animal kingdom – The migration is even made more extraordinary by the supporting cast of predators including lions, leopards, hyenas, and cheetah. The Serengeti’s southern plains host the highest concentration of predators in Africa during the wildebeest calving season (January-March). The peak of the migration is the epic and spectacular mara river crossing stage in the northern Serengeti with the raging Mara River the largest obstacle to the migration’s progress (July-September/ October depending on the rains) then you will continue to Rwanda for a gorilla trekking experience.

Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and transfer to your guesthouse

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta international airport, you will be received by our guide and transferred to your guesthouse in Nairobi for a safari briefing and overnight.

Day 2: Drive to Amboseli national park

After morning breakfast you will depart for Amboseli National Park which sits on the lower slopes of mighty Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest Mountain whose peak lies across the border in Tanzania. It is quite an experience to see Kilimanjaro hovering above the clouds in an early morning drive. Viewing the wild animals arising against the dramatic backdrop of the mountain will thrill the photography enthusiast. Amboseli National Park is renowned for its huge elephant herds. Other residents of the Amboseli National Park include buffalo, black rhino, zebra, wildebeest, and other plain animals on arrival you will check-in for lunch and in the evening enjoy a game drive in the park.

Day 3: Drive to Lake Nakuru national park

Early morning short drive, return to the lodge for full breakfast, Check out and drive to Lake Nakuru National park with picnic lunch and proceed to Nakuru National Park for game drive. Lake Nakuru’s claim to fame is anchored on its flamingos and the over 400 species of birds found here. The lake itself is a soda lake on the floor of the rift valley. The sight of the Lake at times seeing millions of flamingos are quite spectacular. From a distance, the lake appears ringed in pink. The Lake has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species – particularly the Rothschild Giraffe and the black and white rhino. Lions, waterbuck, buffalo, and baboons are all residents here. Later drive back to the Lodge overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Masai Mara national reserve

After a short morning game drive departs the Great Rift Valley to arrive at Masai Mara in time for lunch at the lodge. At 1530 Hrs you will head out for an afternoon game drive till dusk. Masai Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. Some of the famous ones include lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopard, many kinds of antelopes, and elephants. It is in the Mara that perhaps has the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savannah- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures.

Day 5: Full day following wildebeest Migration herds 

After breakfast with packed lunch, you will start your morning drive in the park in search of wildlife like Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, and Buffalo, and the Big Nine to additionally include the Cheetah, Giraffe, Hippo and Zebra, and Notable Birds as you advance to the Mara River to try and catch the River crossing later returning to your lodge for overnight.

Day 6: Following the Migration in Masai Mara

After an early morning breakfast with picnic lunch you will drive to Mara River which is the area where the wildebeest Migration crosses from Serengeti to Masai Mara, depending on the day you may see the wildebeest crossing live, and also see an incredible number of predators that come in to hunt the wildebeest and later you will enjoy more game drive in the park in search of more wildlife and later return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 7: Flight from Masai Mara national reserve to Serengeti national park

After morning breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight from Masai Mara to Serengeti national park which is well known for its world’s largest wildlife migration and a high concentration of big cats like lions, cheetah, and hyenas. The wildlife migration referred to as “the Great Wildebeest migration” is an annual movement of a large group of animals of about 2million, the largest wildlife being the wildebeest some zebras and gazelle that move from Serengeti national park northwards to Masai Mara National Park and back to Serengeti on arrival you will check in to your lodge and enjoy evening game drive in the park.

Day 8: Following the Wildebeest Migration

After early morning breakfast and packed lunch you will make your way to Mara River as you look out for the areas where the wildebeest are concentrated, usually hot and dusty, you will position your car perfectly and wait for a crossing to happen, the crossing usually happens the heat of the day, and later you will continue game driving in the park.

Day 9: Following the Wildebeest Migration

After early morning breakfast, you will take a picnic lunch and head into the park, this drive will be slow as you will be looking out for the abundant wildlife that traverses the plains of Serengeti national park, some of the wildlife includes elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopard, Zebra and you will also be making you’re the Mara river to try and catch the wildebeest cross the Mara River, this is the highlight of your trip to the Serengeti, the wildebeest migration is an annual migration of Millions of wildlife from Serengeti to Masai mara after the lovely game drive you will return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 10: Flight from Serengeti to Kilimanjaro to connect your Flight to Kigali Rwanda

After morning breakfast you will transfer to the airstrip for your domestic flight from Serengeti national park to Arusha on arrival you will be received and transferred to the airport in Kilimanjaro for your connecting flight to Kigali on arrival you will be picked up by our guide and transfer to your lodge for overnight.

Day 11: Drive to Volcanoes National Park

After morning breakfast you will do a short city tour after the tour you will drive to Musanze where you will visit the Diana Fossey Museum after the visit you will drive to Volcanoes national park to your booked accommodation for Check-in, Relaxation, and Overnight.

Day 12: Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park

This will be the highlight of your safari as you will be preparing to come face to face with the Mountain gorillas, After morning breakfast your guide will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Kinigi park headquarters where you will have a gorilla briefing and division of gorilla families after you will drive to your respective gorilla groups and start your trek into the thick forest in search of the Mountain gorillas after finding the gorillas you will spend one hour with gorillas and later return to the Lodge for relaxation.

Day 13: Golden Monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Yet another great experience with the rear golden monkeys awaits you just like the mountain gorilla trekking you will transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi where you will be briefed and split into the smaller groups and then drive to the starting point for golden monkey trekking after finding the golden Monkeys you will spend one hour with them and then later return to the Lodge for relaxation.

Day 14: Depart Kigali for your onward journey

After morning breakfast depending on your flight schedule you will drive to Kigali on arrival you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
