13 Days Kenya Wildlife and Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Kenya is the historical home of the East African safari, a land of sweeping savannah grasslands inhabited by charismatic mega-fauna, including Big Cats, the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino) and just about everything in between. Rwanda is famous for its gorilla trekking opportunities in the Virunga Mountains. This is where Dian Fossey researched and habituated mountain gorillas in the 1960s. Although gorilla trekking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO)

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) Nairobi, you will be met by our representative and they will transfer you to your hotel for relaxation and Overnight.

Day 2: Drive from Nairobi to Amboseli national park

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be met by your guide to check out and drive south to the Amboseli National Park arriving at the lodge for lunch. You will relax before you start your introduction game viewing starting from 4:00 p.m. until sunset when you return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight. You will stay at Amboseli Sopa lodge a luxury Lodge located just outside the park. All meals and drinking water are included.

Day 3: Full day game drive in Amboseli national park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will depart for an extensive game viewing with picnic lunches you will track wildlife ranging from the jumbo African elephants and other plains game with scenic views of the Mount Kilimanjaro from the observation point returning back to the luxury camp for dinner and overnight. You will stay at Amboseli Sopa lodge a luxury Lodge located just outside of park. All meals are included except drinking water.

Day 4: Drive from Amboseli to Aberdare national park

After breakfast, you will check out and depart northwards through Nairobi and central farmland arriving at the Aberdare country club where you will enjoy hot lunch and afterward transferred to the Ark lodge where you will enjoy evening and night views of animals as they come to drink water at the waterhole have dinner and overnight at the lodge. You will stay at Ark Lodge, a luxury lodge located inside Aberdare National Park. All meals are included except drinking water.

Day 5: Drive from Aberdare to Lake Nakuru national park

You will be transferred back to Aberdare country club for breakfast and meet your guide to drive to the equator line and Thomson falls arriving at your lodge in Nakuru in time for lunch. You will have afternoon game viewing and will be returning back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Full day game drives in Lake Nakuru national park

After morning breakfast you will enjoy morning game drive in the park in search of wildlife like Rhinos, Hyenas, Leopard and later return to the lodge for relaxation and later head out for evening game drive to photograph the flamingos on sunset and enjoy drinks in the park as the sun falls and after return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 7: Drive from Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National reserve

Early breakfast you will check out to drive through the Savannah grassland into Maasai Mara national reserve arriving at the lodge in time for lunch. You will then relax a bit and start your first introduction game drive in this migration paradise reserve. You will return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Fullday game drives in Masai Mara national reserve

Early breakfast at the lodge, you will then depart for an extensive game drive in this wildlife paradise reserve tracking animals enjoying picnic lunches at the hippo pool picnic site you will proceed on with the game drive until late evening when you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Full day game drives in Masai Mara national reserve

Early breakfast at the lodge you will then depart for an extensive game drive in this wildlife paradise reserve tracking animals enjoying picnic lunches at the hippo pool picnic site you will proceed on with the game drive until late evening when you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Drive from Masai Mara to connect your flight to Kigali Rwanda

After early morning final game viewing in Masai mara National reserve ,you will return to the lodge for full breakfast then check out to drive back to Nairobi arriving in mid-afternoon and connect to your international flight to Kigali Rwanda, Upon arrival you will be received by our guide and transfer you to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 11: Kigali city tour and drive to Volcanoes national park Rwanda

After lazily morning breakfast you will head out to Kigali to visit the genocide museum and the Belgian peace centre and later enjoy lunch at the famous Hotel Rwanda and after start your drive to Volcanoes national park, this is one of the diverse rainforests in East Africa and home to the endangered mountain gorillas, upon arrival you will check in and relax as you prepare for one of Africa’s greatest wildlife encounters.

Day 12: Full day gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes national park

After early morning breakfast, with picnic lunch fully dressed in your gorilla trekking gear you will drive to Kinigi park headquarters for your gorilla trekking experience, the day starts with the briefing by park rangers and after you will drive to the starting point to start your trek on foot upon locating the mountain gorillas you will spend 1 hour with the gentle giants and later return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 13: Morning optional golden monkey trekking and afternoon transfer to Kigali for your departure flight

Today will be an optional day in the morning, you may choose to relax at the lodge or head out for golden Monkey trekking experience in Volcanoes national park, depending on your option you will depart volcanoes national park after lunch for Kigali, upon arrival you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.

Best time to trek Mountain gorillas and see wildlife in Kenya

Best time for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is during the drier seasons from June to August and December to January. At this time the trails tend to be easier to navigate and spending a precious hour with the gorillas might be more pleasant when it isn’t raining and those travelling between August and October might catch the great wildebeest Migration arrive or leave Masai mara from Serengeti.
