Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Bamako Airport
Upon arrival at Bamako, you will be welcomed by our representatives and transferred to the lodge for overnight and safari briefing

Day 2: Bamako – Djenne
Breakfast; set out for Djenne by 4X4, Lunch at San, the town of the Bobo people. Arrive in Djenne in the afternoon in time to take advantage of the warm afternoon light to take some beautiful photos of the world’s largest mud structure.

Day 3: Djenne & Mopti River Tour
Breakfast and tour of Djenne and its unique architecture, the tomb of Tapama, museum, Koranic school, the old town of Djenne Djeno. Depart for Mopti by 4×4; lunch and relax at the pool. In the afternoon, take a sunset boat tour of the Niger River by pirogue, visiting small Peulh villages and Bozo fishing villages.

Day 4: Mopti – Timbuktu
Breakfast and depart by 4X4 for Timbuktu with a short stop at Douentza to stretch, stop for a picnic lunch in the shade, arrive at Timbuktu in the early afternoon. Check-in at the hotel, relax, free afternoon.

Day 5: Timbuktu
Breakfast; visit the mysterious town of Timbuktu, a town of 333 Saints, situated at the door of the Sahara Desert. To see museum of explorers, big museum, the mosque of Djingueray Berre, Sankoe Koranic University and Ahmed Baba Library where ancient manuscripts are on display. In the afternoon, take a camel ride to visit the camps of the Tuareg nomads and watch the sunset on the dunes; dinner and a peaceful night!

Day 6: Timbuktu – Dogon Country
Breakfast; depart by 4X4 for Dogon Country. Lunch at Douentza; visit Fombori village and museum; continue along escarpment stopping for the night at Koundou, a charming campment where you may sleep in a room or on the terrace under the stars.

Day 7: Dogon Country
Breakfast; begin the trek of Dogon villages; visit a Guinna, home of the oldest community member; meet a Hogon village chief, and visit a Toguna, traditional Dogon meeting house where all community decisions and laws are passed. Lunch at one of the villages in the afternoon, volunteer tree planting for those who wish we will provide a tree for each volunteer.

Day 8: Dogon Country – Segou
Breakfast; depart for Segou. Eat lunch at Restaurant Poulet d’Or. Enjoy a free afternoon at the pool or on an excursion on your own.

Day 9: Segou – Bamako
Breakfast & visit Segou, the ancient capital of the great Bambara kingdom. To see: port of Segou where you can buy Kalabougou pottery, spice market, colonial quarter featuring Sudanese architecture, and finish at an artist’s cooperative where you can learn how to make natural clothing dye from tree leaves and bark, and try it yourself. Lunch at Segou and arrive in Bamako before nightfall. Check-in and have dinner at the hotel.

Day 10: Bamako & Departure
Visit Mali’s capital, national museum, fetish market. Eat lunch; make last-minute purchases at the crafts market and Marché Rose and later transfer to the airport for your flight out.
