Buhoma gorilla trekking sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park is the first and oldest gorilla trekking sector located north of the park, Buhoma is the first area where gorilla habituation started in the whole of Bwindi forest, by 1991 gorilla tourism was not available in Uganda but the process to make the mountain gorillas used to human beings had started, by 1993 the first gorilla family was already available for tracking in Bwindi forest and since then the area has a total of about 6 gorilla families available for tourist to trek.

Things to do in Buhoma after the gorilla trekking experience
Buhoma being the oldest gorilla trekking sector in Bwindi forest there are several other activities to do after gorilla trekking and some of the recommended activities include
- Forest walks and waterfalls hikes on Munyaga River
- Forest birding (top with 23 Albertine rift endemic recorded.
- Visiting Ride 4 women project and the Bwindi community hospital
- Visiting the Batwa pygmy groups and village walks
- Following the famous Buhoma-Nkuringo trail, this activity requires full day and it’s recommended for people heading further south to Rwanda.

How to get to the Buhoma gorilla trekking sector?
There are two ways to get to the Buhoma sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park; this can be by air or by Road
- By Air
There are direct domestic flights from Entebbe to Kihihi airstrip which is located 46 km from the park offices and the drive can take anything from 1 hour to 2 hours depending on the stops, if you’re keen on village life then this road has incredible countryside.
- By Road
Depending on where you approach the northern part of Buhoma if you’re on our gorilla express safari package from Kampala it will take you between 9-10 hours via Queen Elizabeth national park or via Ntungamo and Rukungiri road.
Or if you’re on our regular gorillas, chimpanzee, and wildlife safari then Buhoma is only 2 and a half hours away from the Ishasha area which is the southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park famous for Tree climbing lions
