Are Mountain gorillas very dangerous?

Mountain gorillas live in forests high in the mountains, at elevations of 8,000 to 13,000 feet. They have thicker fur, and more of it, compared to other great apes. The fur helps them to survive in a habitat where temperatures often drop below freezing. But as humans have moved more and more into the gorillas’ territory, the gorillas have been pushed farther up into the mountains for longer periods, forcing them to endure dangerous and sometimes deadly conditions and over years they have managed to adapt to those living conditions.

Gorilla diets

Mountain gorillas main diet is  mainly vegetarian diet, feeding on stems, bamboo shoots and fruits. Western lowland gorillas, however, also have an appetite for termites and ants, and break open termite nests to eat the larvae.

Social behavior

Mountain gorillas live in groups also known as families of about 10-30 or even 40 members. Each group is led by a dominant silverback which determines the movement of their groups and protects them from any external threats. All members of a group have a close bond to each other.

Why do mountain gorillas Charge?

They do so if provoked or as a form of defense if threatened. Before divulging more, it is important to state that 90% of gorilla charges are fake. A silverback only acts aggressive towards a threat to give time for other members of his family to seek safety and they will do that bobbing their chest and opening their teeth wide to create fear for the approaching danger in order to keep the family safe.
