Kaédi is the largest city and administrative center of the Gorgol Region of Southern Mauritania, located on the border with Senegal. It is approximately 435 km from Mauritania’s capital, Nouakchott.
The city sits within the “Chemama” Riverine zone along the north bank of the River Senegal where it connects with the Gorgol River. This region is one of the few areas of settled agriculture in the country. Culturally, the city is among the most diverse in Mauritania, consisting of ethnic White moors and Black Moors as well as pulaar and soninke communities.

Being the largest hospital in Southern Mauritania, the Kaédi Regional Hospital is one of the identities of Kaédi. More than providing quality hospitality services, the Kaédi Regional Hospital is widely noted for its distinct construction. This dome-shaped unique hospital building was designed by Fabrizio Carola of ADAUA. In 1995, this hospital was honored with Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The hospital was built in the year 1989.

How to get to Kaedi city Mauritania
Flights serve the airport currently. So international tourists are needed to land at the Nouakchott International Airport initially and then they can use the bus or airport taxi to reach Kaédi. It would be better if visitors booked private transfers online prior to reaching the airport, which is also a recommended option.
By road, Kaédi can be reached from all around the country but bus connection is limited, so advised to hire car.
To move within Kaédi, minibusses and rental vehicles like cars and bikes are options.
