How safe Is it for tourists to travel to Malawi

Generally speaking, Malawi is a safe country for seasonal travellers, just like any other destination across the globe, big cities and crowded places may prove to be a centre of crime like theft, based on our experience we have not recorded any cases involving tourists on our organized Malawi safari holidays, here is our key guide to what to expect while on safari in Malawi.

However, for emergency cases we strongly recommend clients purchase travel or medical insurance in their home country before travelling to Malawi.

In Lilongwe city and the airport

Usually, upon arrival at the airport our guide or representative will receive you and transfer you to your booked lodge overnight, at the lodge there are security and safe deposit boxes to store your valuables and lock them with a key so this will ensure your staff is safe and the lodge will keep your clean all the time.

At safari lodges

Most safari lodges are located in remote areas making it even more secure however they will still provide you with a safe deposit box to keep your valuables and your room will stay closed during activities except when the room Stuarts cleans it.

On activities

Depending on the nature of your activity for example walking safari, game drives, hikes, diving and snorkelling the service providers we work with will ensure a high level of safety is maintained during the excursions and we do provide minor first aid options available in form of first aid kit boxes and our guides are trained to deal with minor first aid.

Kids on safari

The majority of private game reserves and safari operators do not accept children under a specific age. This age limitation typically applies to children under the age of 8, but sometimes the specified age limit could extend as high as 12. This age limit is a factor mainly for safety reasons.

On transfers

When you are on road transfer from one destination to the other usually you may stop for meals en-route, in this case, we highly recommend clients carrying their small bags with them containing passport, travel documents, money and other very important items as the car may be parked outside the restaurant parking hence feeling safer through the parking’s may have security personnel.

Conclusion

We highly recommend travelling to Malawi and we deem it safe for both domestic and foreign travellers but we advise booking a safari with a tour company as opposed to making your own arrangements.
