An Enchanted underwater World “Further north along Kenya’s spectacular Indian Ocean coast is the Kiunga National Reserve. This pristine ecosystem incorporates a chain of about 50 calcareous offshore islands and coral reefs in the Lamu Archipelago. Visitors can view the teeming sea life in the coral reefs, sea grass and extensive mangrove forests which are a refuge for sea turtles and dugongs. The reserve provides ideal opportunities for wind surfing, diving and snorkelling, water skiing and sunbathing.

Kiunga Marine Park and reserve forms a chain of more than 30 islands engraved with beautiful coral reefs from the Lamu Archipelago stretching 60km north along Dodori and Boni Marine reserves from main land Kenya. All 50 islands of this Kenya Wildlife and marine reserve are covered with low tangled thorny shrubs, grass, aloes, creepers and mangrove forests.  The national park receives a few migratory birds in most months of the year most of them are sea birds such as Crab plover.

The Marine Park and reserve is normally good for windsurfing, snorkelling, water skiing, sunbathing and Diving. However, some of its spectacular sights include sea turtles, reef fish, olive ridley, lobsters, sea urchins, crabs and leather back turtles

Visit the park is quite easy; there is a boat from Lamu town and one airstrip at Dodori National Reserve, from where you can catch a boat to reach all the islands of Kiunga Marine Reserve.

Kiunga Park covers 270 square kilometres (100 sq mi). The park covers an area with approximately 50 islands and coral reefs in the Lamu Archipelago. It borders the Boni and Dodori National Reserves.

January to march is the warm months while cooler temperature occurs in July to September. In April and May that’s rainy season here the area receives heavy rains and the park receives shorter rains in November.
