How safe is traveling to Republic of Congo for a holiday
This former French colony is often referred to as Congo-Brazzaville to distinguish it from its neighbor – the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Dense impenetrable jungle covers 80% of its territory, with most of its sparse population living in the south, either in Brazzaville or Pointe Noire or in communities along the railway that connects these two cities.
Offshore oil, while bringing much-needed foreign investment into the country, was a major factor in the 1997–99 civil war, with different ethnic groups fighting for control of revenues.
- History of Republic of Congo
Congo was formerly part of the French colony of Equatorial Africa. The Republic of the Congo was established on 28 November 1958 and gained independence from France in 1960. It was a Marxist–Leninist state from 1969 to 1992, under the name People’s Republic of the Congo.
- Travel insurance
It is essential to have specialist Congo insurance before you travel to, or begin operations in this lush, central African nation. Although the Republic of Congo has been largely peaceful since 2003, there remain pockets of rebel activity, and poor infrastructure and healthcare can also present problems for the visitor.
- Tourist destinations
Except for Brazzaville the rest of the tourist destinations in the Republic of Congo are remote and mainly accessible by in house guests and loss of client property has never been recorded we are proud to say this is a 100% safe destination to visit under our expedition but traveling on your own or backpacking on your own is extremely dangerous since the country is remote with less security presence in many places so we recommend booking an organized safari through an agency.
The Republic of Congo is safe to visit. It is a developing country in Africa and it’s actually one of the safest on this continent. Petty crime targeting foreigners isn’t that common, though it happens and you should keep in mind that the beaches are where petty crime is often committed.
