The mountainous interior includes Black River Gorges National Park, with rain forests, waterfalls, hiking trails, and wildlife like the flying fox. Capital Port Louis has sites such as the Champs de Mars horse track, Eureka plantation house, and 18th-century Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens.

Moreover, the different coastal regions of the island make Mauritius a more diverse destination than you might think – why not hire a car and enjoy a self-drive tour of Mauritius or stay at a couple of resorts to get the best of both worlds?
And speaking of the best of both worlds, many people choose a Mauritius holiday as a relaxing finale to a Big 5 safari in Africa.

Cars drive on the left-hand side whilst priority is for vehicles coming from the right. Mauritius has only one highway. And yes self-drive is safe but we recommend hiring a local driver along for the best experience.
