Detailed safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo and transfer to your Lodge

On arrival in Ivato International Airport, you will be received by our guide who will drive you to Relais Des Plateaux. This perfect hotel features a heated swimming pool, new spa and sauna, offering traditional Malagasy treatments. This afternoon, you can relax in the hotel or head out to explore the colourful city of Antananarivo known locally as ‘Tana’.

Day 2: Domestic flight from Antananarivo to Anjajavy Reserve

After an early breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Ivato International Airport for your scheduled charter flight to Anjajavy. You’ll be greeted on arrival by a hotel representative and driven to Anjajavy Lodge, a luxury property set within a 450-hectare nature reserve in the north-west coast of Madagascar. Your duplex rosewood villa will feature a private deck overlooking the ocean, and you’ll be surrounded by a magical forest filled with lemurs, chameleons and hummingbirds. This evening, you’ll venture out on an exciting night walk to see the forest’s nocturnal creatures including the playful coquerel’s siafakas and the tiny danfoss mouse lemurs. Listen out for the strange squeal of the Grewcock’s sportive lemur, and keep watch for the Commerson’s leaf-nosed bat, the endemic tsingy tuft-tailed rat, and the elusive fossa, Madagascar’s largest predator.

Day 3: Full day at Anjajavy Reserve

After breakfast, you’ll head out on a walk along the Path of the Crabs (Chemin des Crabes), where you’ll find ancient baobabs, the famous hairy crab and a kaleidoscope of birdlife including the bright red fody, Souimanga sunbird, paradise flycatcher, Madagascar fish eagle, crested Ibis and the rare Madagascar sacred Ibis. You’ll also visit a cave where you’ll discover historical treasures including stalactites, sharks’ teeth and a fossilized lemur skull. You’ll return to the lodge for lunch and a leisurely afternoon – soak in the large infinity pool filled with seawater or explore the private coves surrounding the lodge.

Day 4: Full day at Anjajavy Reserve

Enjoy breakfast before taking a long walk along the King’s Alley and Giant’s Causeway, lined with ancient baobab trees, tsingy rock formations found only on the island and Coquerel’s sifakas, a remarkable species of lemur that bounces across the ground like a mini kangaroo. The sifakas and other species of lemur such as the common brown lemur, roam freely around the lodge gardens and the reserve. You’ll return to the lodge for a romantic lunch served in the Oasis, a wet biotope filled with plants to represent the spectacular floral diversity of Madagascar. Keep your eyes peeled for birds such as the Souimanga Sunbirds and the Malagasy Kingfishers, frogs and chameleons in the pond, and families of lemurs leaping through the canopy.

Day 5: Full day at Anjajavy Reserve

Full day relaxation at the lodge or optional activities like customised excursions to neighbouring islands and nature reserves, scuba diving, snorkeling, quad biking and fishing. You can visit the cave of the Sakalava, where you’ll find a family of Madagascar bats among the stalagmites and stalactites, or retreat to one of the deserted beaches along the Anjajavy Peninsula for a romantic picnic. You can also visit Antafiamoara, where you’ll meet the Giant tortoises who were reintroduced to the Anjajavy Reserve in 2018 after 750 years of extinction, or see the Anjajavy and Ambodro Ampasy villages where you can roam the markets filled with handmade crafts.

Day 6: Departure from Madagascar

After an early morning breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip, where you’ll take your scheduled charter flight to Antananarivo. On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you’ll be met by our representative who will assist you in boarding your return flight home.
